Extending Sought and West from the southern tip of the Florida mainland like a necklace of Caribbean jewels, the Florida Keys is a chain of over 100 islands connected by more than 40 bridges. While the Keys covers a distance of 126 miles from Florida City to Key West, only 30 of its islands are inhabited. Each has its own special flavor, but all are rich in history, tasty regional cuisine, colorful flowers and unusual fish and wild life.
While most of eastern North America has had continuous development over the past 200 years, the Florida Keys-while discovered much earlier--remained undeveloped until the middle of the twentieth century. The fact that the Keys were largely overlooked for so long allowed for the preservation of the area's natural environment and it's subsequent appeal to visitors from all over the world. Drawn by pristine tropical surroundings, relaxed island living and extraordinary opportunities for watersports for the novice and professional alike, the Keys are truly a vacation paradise.
Today, the Keys are generally divided into 3 areas: the Upper, Middle and Lower Keys. The Tavernier Inn is nestled in the heart of Tavernier, the second "town" of the Upper Keys. A quite little town, Tavernier is located on the northern end of Plantation Key, immediately south of Key Largo. Blending "Old World" charm with Keys casualness and serenity, Tavernier is a favored destination not only because of its pace, but because of its proximity to both Key Largo and Islamorada activities and attractions.
Rich in beauty and history, the Tavernier area is admired by boaters, anglers and water sport enthusiasts of all kinds. Its easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Florida Bay allows for a myriad of activities: diving, snorkeling, fishing, swimming, water skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking, bird watching, eco-touring and much more. But its setting and climate also allows for relaxation in beautiful style...
A getaway at The Tavernier Inn truly guarantees you access to the very best of everything the Keys have to offer!
